Recommending Drs. You and Ma
Even though I was born and raised in Hong Kong till the age of 9, I was heavily influenced by the training and extensive work experience in the American health care system, and was skeptical of the medical benefits of Eastern Medicine until a caring American friend discovered the medical benefits of acupuncture and insisted that I try it. Once I tried it, I was hooked to acupuncture and to the excellent skills of Dr. You. In fact, I was so impressed with Dr. You’s able training in both Eastern and Western Medicine that I encouraged and supported him to develop a program proposal to St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital on developing a robust Integrated Medicine Program in the heart of the Texas Medical Center."
(Since 2004, Mr. Michael K. Jhin has been Chief Executive Officer Emeritus of St. Luke’s Episcopal Health System. He previously served as the System’s President and CEO for fourteen years.)
I have found Dr. You to be a responsible, caring, dedicated medical professional who is diligent in his pursuit of his patients’ well being and developing more collegial relations between western and eastern medical disciplines. He is in the forefront of helping to educate the community of western physicians."
William Riley, MD, Neurologist
What a delight it is to watch my patients improve under the skillful care of Drs. You and Ma. When what I have to offer through Western medicine holds considerable risk, both my patients and I are grateful for the non-invasive alternatives of acupuncture and herbal medicine."

Stress, Insomnia, Stomachache and Wrist Pain
I am a 50 year old male and I am CEO of a construction company. I consulted Dr. You to see about what acupuncture could do for stress and insomnia. Stress is an ever-present part of my life and anything I can do to keep it minimized is very important to me. Stress contributes to insomnia and some stomach problems. I have experienced sleep problems for as long as I can remember. They come and go and they seem to be primarily related to my stress level. I saw immediate results from my acupuncture treatments with Dr. You. I felt very relaxed after my first session and I was able to fall asleep more easily and stay asleep. These benefits continue to this day. I have probably seen Dr. You about 10 or 15 times. Currently, I see him about every two weeks. Because I believe acupuncture helped relieve my stress, it also helped with my chronic stomach upset. I have also sought Dr. You's help for wrist pain. Again, the results were immediate and lasting. This was my first experience with Chinese medicine and it was a positive one. I would highly recommend considering treating insomnia (or any other condition) with acupuncture."
Headache and Joint Pain Related to Cancer, and Insomnia
My story begins in December, 2007 with a breast cancer diagnosis. I had surgery, then started a 64 week treatment plan which included radiation and chemotherapy. Among the many side effects of cancer treatment, I developed daily headaches and considerable joint pain. After consulting with my oncologist and primary care physician, I met with Dr. You to discuss options for addressing these side effects. After deciding to go forward with acupuncture. Dr You designed a customized approach to my situation. Within 3 weeks of beginning acupuncture, the debilitating side effects of my cancer treatment were under control. I continued to see Dr You periodically until I finished all the cancer drug infusions.
In addition to the side effects mentioned above, many cancer patients (including me) find that insomnia is a problem. This seems to be due, in part, to the steroids contained in cancer drugs. Anxiety is common among cancer patients and can lead to loss of sleep. In my case, my transition into menopause was caused by chemotherapy. With all these factors, my oncologist prescribed Ambien (a prescription sleep drug) from the very beginning of cancer treatment. For almost 2 years, I took Ambien before bed. Eventually, I completed cancer treatment, but found that I was unable to fall asleep without taking Ambien. I arranged a meeting with Dr You and my primary care physician, Dr Winstrom. Together, we decided to systematically reduce my Ambien dosage and to begin an acupuncture regime designed to restore sleep cycles to healthy levels. Within 2 months of starting a cycle of acupuncture treatment for insomnia, I no longer required any sleep aid.
I now recommend acupuncture to anyone suffering from insomnia, including cancer patients, women experiencing menopause and those who have been relying on prescription sleeping aids."
